-Post highly visible
signage that clearly communicates new policies, especially those related to visitor procedures. Advise that parents/guardians stay in their cars and limit their contact with others while picking up or dropping off their children.

-Implement multiple social distancing procedures for gatherings, classrooms, and movement through the building.

-Provide alcohol-based hand sanitizer in classrooms and high-traffic areas to allow students and staff to frequently sanitize their hands. Be sure to also consider ways to accommodate the needs of children and families at high risk.

-Require sick students and staff to stay at home if they are feeling ill and/or showing symptoms of any kind. Consider implementing daily health screenings for students and staff.

-In situations where social distancing is not possible, advise that staff and students wear face-covering masks for protection and to prevent further spread of the virus.

-Communicate regularly with staff, students, and parents. Plan to include messages that address potential stigma and discrimination.

-Reconfigure classroom layouts to ensure seating/desks are at least 6 feet apart. Turn desks to face in the same direction rather than facing each other, or have students sit on only one side of tables, spaced apart. Seat closed for social distancing signs can assist in communicating these new layouts.

-Cleaning staff should clean and disinfect all areas (e.g., offices, bathrooms, and common areas) used by the ill persons, focusing especially on frequently touched surfaces.

Administrators should continue to seek guidance from local health officials to determine when students and staff should return to schools and what additional steps are needed for the school community.
